The annual Catalina Island Half Marathon is set to return on November 14, with event organizers anticipating a sell-out of remaining registration spots ahead of race day. This expected sell-out marks the conclusion of a record-breaking year for the full Run Catalina Race Series, which previously saw the Avalon Benefit 50 Mile/50K Run in January and the Hi-Tec Catalina Island Marathon in April both reach full capacity.

The Run Catalina series has experienced significant growth, reporting an average 30% increase in demand year-over-year. Mike Bone, president and CEO of Spectrum Sports Management, which produces the Run Catalina Island series, noted the continued expansion of the trail running industry. Mr. Bone expressed enthusiasm for the growing interest in the sport and looked forward to welcoming both new and returning trail runners to the island's unique courses to experience Catalina's beauty on foot.

The Catalina Island Half Marathon offers participants a choice of three distances: the half marathon, a 10K, and a Kids Fun Run. The half marathon course challenges runners with hilly terrain, including demanding climbs, scenic peaks, and expansive ocean vistas. Starting in Avalon, participants will pass the historic Wrigley Mansion before ascending into the island's interior. Here, runners are rewarded with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. The course then descends through the Wrigley Memorial before concluding back in town.

This event is also a component of Run Catalina’s Triple Crown Challenge. The challenge requires athletes to complete all three Run Catalina events within a 12-month period. This includes the Avalon 50K or 50 Mile, the Hi-Tec Catalina Island Marathon, and the Catalina Island Half Marathon. Runners can commence their Triple Crown journey with any of these races, but all specified distances must be completed consecutively once started, within the 12-month timeframe. Those who successfully finish the challenge receive a Triple Crown finisher jacket, Hi-Tec shoes, and a distinctive belt buckle.
